Green, a staunch conservative whose memorable outbursts and disagreements with other politicians have made headlines in the past, said she “served under her speaker during my first term in Congress” and was “very impressed with her ability to get things done” for her party.
“I wish we could do things for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to do for her party,” added Rep. Green. “So, I wish her all the best in retirement, but I’d like to see people leave Washington much sooner than wait until they’re in their eighties.”
Her comments about Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, came after the California politician released a video message announcing she would not seek re-election after four decades representing the city of San Francisco.
“My message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power,” she said in the clip. “We’ve made history. We’ve made progress. We’ve always led the way. Now we must continue to do so by being full participants in our democracy and fighting for the American ideals we hold dear.”
